unlock: What is Waiting Right in Front of Us?

June has nearly passed without truly feeling connected. I was outside a lot, spending three days at a music festival under a searing sun with temperatures over 30 degrees and very little shade.

I even enjoyed swimming! That in itself is surprising. I usually do not swim because I dislike getting out of the water and drying off in the open air. I get cold very quickly, even in high temperatures. Because of this, I hadn't brought a bathing suit; and I wasn't expecting a pool at our campsite. But due to the intense heat, I found myself drawn to the water and in need of a swimsuit. I even bought a bikini, cylcing in the heat twice (!) for this, so we could dive into the cool blue water. Oh my! The water felt cool against my skin, keeping my body temperature down. What a refreshment that was!

The heat lingered, heavy and unyielding throughout the days. The music festival was great. Listening to known and new music, drinking lots of water, applying sunscreen constantly, and making sure to not be too active.

It became a lesson in slowing down, forcing me to practice the art of breathing and taking it easy. And I did slow down. I slowed down almost to the point of a full stop on my creativity, leaving a quiet emptiness where my art used to be.

Now, that should not happen—not when I worked so hard to cultivate a habit that brought me so much joy. Drawing flowers has always been my sanctuary; it gives me peace and gently silences the busy, ongoing stream of thoughts.

Truth be told, I am only talking about a gap of three days. Missing a single day is fine, especially when that day is full and demanding. But by the second day, a sense of restlessness already starts to creep in. Reaching three days without drawing made me realize how much I truly missed it.

In a way, that is a beautiful sign. It proves that the daily routine I built is working perfectly; my soul genuinely craves it.

Yet, I noticed once more that when fatigue sets in, the inner chatter grows louder. It gets to the point where it drains me, drifting into sadness and unexpected tears. That is something I can work on: making sure I am well-rested and staying true to myself and my needs. By doing that, I can become the person I want to be.

I tend to make lists every now and then of the things I like. Seeing the several lists from the past months, it is clear that I am writing down the exact same enjoyments every single time. That in itself makes me happy; I do know what I like. It is so consistent that I don't feel the need to search for anything more.

What I could do, however, is put the magnifying glass on what it is I am not doing. Taking action toward the things I love might just be the key to unlocking the happy, carefree flow I would love to embrace. My mind is letting me know that a few wishes on my yearly list have presented themselves multiple times. I might just make plans to work toward that list.

It sounds so easy.

Will this unlock what has been right in front of me all this time?

I'll have to get out there, get some action going, and find out!

How about you? Is there a routine or a habit that your soul deeply craves when you step away from it? And what is one small thing on your list that you want to unlock today? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
